I’m in love with a fairytale…

May 17th, 2009movies&TVYesterday Russia hosted the 54th annual Eurovision-Songcontest. With a Budget of 42 Million € the host presented us the most expensive and one of the best shows in the history of the Eurovision.

After Cirque de Soleil opened the evening, Dima Bilan flew on stage to perform last year’s winner-song “Believe”. In 2008 Russia already spent a fortune on the Songcontest hiring Timbaland to produce their song and a famous Russian Violinist as well as a famous Russian figure skater to enrich the Dima’s live performance.
Finally it worked and Russia got the Eurovision to Moscow for the first time. And the evening brought us another first time: The official voting was opened directly from the russian space station ISS!
In little clips Irena Ponaroshka tried to teach us about Russians in joking about stereotypes, which was a cute Idea eventhough it didn’t really kick in.
“One of the highlights of the show were the entry-presenting clips before every song.”
Germany failed again, eventhough it wasn’t as bad as last year. Well known producer Alex Christensen (”Das Boot”) and mexican Singer Oscar Loya did a good performance of their swing-piece “Miss Kiss Kiss Bang” with Dita von Teese sprawling in the background.
But during the announcement of the votingresults it seemed that simply nobody likes Germany. Good Song, good singer, good show…but only rank 20. And while most of the countries granted their neighbours good points, Germany was lost in the middle with only a few points here and there.“At least not last this time.”
Very early in the announcement the winner became quite clear: Norway reached the record-amount of 387 points! Alexander Rybak was previously chosen as odds-on favorite and filled the expectations well. His mix of traditional folk-sounds and catchy lovestory got points from every participating country.
In the videos you can see the german entry and the winning entry of Norway, as well as my personal favorite of the evening Anastasija Prichodko performing for Russia.
Please feel free to leave your opinion or to post your favorite in the comment section!
