April 30th, 2009culturesYou are standing in the bathroom brushing your teeth. All of the sudden the door opens and your roommate’s girlfriend stands in the door. She: “oh, eh sorry, I…” You: “Oh, eh, sorry, eugh, fliggehmpf…”
Everybody knows this situation or at least one of that kind. Everyday life situations where surpringly few people actually know what to say. Because of the unexpectedness you’re in a rush to say at least something, because to say nothing would be even more awkward. And after you brought a fliggehmpf out and the moment has passed you bang your head against your inner wall. You know, you could at least have stopped after the sorry…
If anyone would like to share his expieriences with No-proper-phrase-comes-to-mind-situations, please feel free to leave a comment!

February 5th, 2009culturesIn season 2 of Star Trek The next Generation a new alien race gets introduced: The Borg.
The borg are of humanoid nature but developed a way to connect artificial components with their body. Individuality is given up to reach the perfect collective action. If you don’t know the borg, you can read more about them here.I couldn’t help but wonder: Could the borg be a preview of our future? Read the rest of this entry »

January 12th, 2009culturesAfter everyone going crazy about texas hold’em lately (at least in Germany), I guess the next big gambling-hype is just around the corner. So I went there to have a look at it…..Ladys and Gentlemen, please make your bets…..ROULETTE!
I discovered that Roulette has the best qualities to become the next hip thing: the thrill, the style and the belief you had in fact influence in winning. So for all you people starting to play roulette, I will present my best tips for rookies!
- Start with simple chances (like black/red) for a quick feeling of success
- 0 (zero) is almost everytime followed by a black number
- if you don’t feel your luck, switch table
- if you feel your luck, but you’re not winning, go home
- only take a certain amount of money with you and leave your creditcards at home
- if another person at your table often wins, try betting the same numbers – either you win too, or at least the other sucker doesn’t win anymore…
- bet on two dozens as your backup, so you don’t lose too much too quick
and last but not least…
- always remember your bets!

December 30th, 2008culturesKinda based on my worksituation my interest in japanese culture grows:

Kawaii is one of many subgenres of the Harajuku-Culture and is now my new hobby-horse. For better understanding what kawaii is about I put together some visual help.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find any stitch-costume like that fitting for grown-ups, so If you have one left, please send it to me!
